When I first began wedding photography the dance receptions were the most intimidating part to me. Not because there is so much going on during the dancing but because it is always so dark.
Romantic lighting is great for that perfect ambiance, but camera’s, darkness, and non-blurry images are not best friends.
But, I am so thankful for my new Nikon 85mm f/1.8 lens and my not so new Nikon SB-600 flash! Oh, and this awesome book: On-Camera Flash: Techniques for Digital Wedding and Portrait Photography By: Neil van Niekerk
Between all these tools and understanding of using my surroundings I am able to capture sweet moments that take place during those dancing receptions without stressing.
It’s moments like these that I’m able to captures using only my on camera flash.
Now I just love dancing, because I get to capture what I want one day to be me and my husband…along with almost every other girl I know. ;).
If you wanna learn how to capture low-lighting situations better go grab that book and give it a good read!
P.s. If you plan to be a guest at wedding and want to get these photos, PLEASE be nice to the professional photographer the bride and groom hired and let them capture these moments. You’re flash can ruin the paid professional’s photos….read this guy on how.
