Baked Strawberry Glazed Donuts {Delish Dish Recipe 9}

Josh, my husband, and I aren’t big on Valentine’s day stuff, but I thought it’d be nice to bake some of Josh’s favorite treats, donuts. I hadn’t tried making homemade donuts before and I thought what better day to try. (I cannot forget to mention that my mom got me a donut pan for Christmas! Thanks, mom!) Surprisingly, I had all the random ingredient this recipe needed! (I seem to be in this habit of missing some key ingredients like, baking soda and powder, but always forget to buy them when I’m at the store. Don’t you hate that?)

Anywhoo, these guys were pretty yummy fresh and a day or two after, but they don’t last too long. So, if you aren’t able to eat them all I’d suggest halving the recipe. 🙂 I think next time I may try to combine this recipe with a previous one I’ve posted on here, to make cinnamon coated donuts…If I try it I’ll post my recipe, so don’t you worry. 😉

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 12-15 minutes
Serves: 12-14 donuts

Donut Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 skim milk
  • 2 tbps butter, melted

Glaze Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbps skim milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 to 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp strawberry gelatin powder
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a donut pan. (Mine makes 6 at a time.)
  2. In  large bowl mix all the donut ingredients until well combined.
  3. Fill each donut spot 1/2 way full with the batter. (DON’T OVER FILL! I made this mistake and had funny looking donuts.) You can either accomplish this by using a small spoon to spoon the batter in or grab a zip lock, cut of a 1/2 inch corner and fill the bag with the batter.
  4. Bake for about 10-12 minutes until a tooth pick comes out clean.
  5. Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. Cool completely before glazing
  6. Meanwhile, in a medium size pan over medium heat melt the butter. Once the butter has melted (don’t let it boil or simmer), add milk and vanilla until combined and heated.
  7. Whisk in gelatin until well combined.
  8. Slowly add in powdered sugar. Depending on how thick you like the glaze will indicate how much powdered sugar you’ll add. I like mine pretty thin, so I used only 3/4 cup. Use 1 cup if you like yours thick. Remove from heat.
  9. Once donuts are completely cooled either dip the top of the donuts into the glace or use a spatula to spread glaze on top. Add sprinkles immediate if you desire.
  10. Allow to set for 5-10 minutes before serving.
