When you think of the siren archetype, you think of the ocean, so the Oregon coast is exactly where I hosted this one-day siren archetype women’s retreat. We spent an afternoon embodying the siren archetype.
We began by getting into our power as femmes through movement and play, and what better way to start than dancing? I created an entire playlist and a month-long study’s worth of exercises to try with the somatic movement meditation I teach and use in my portrait work to help my clients/students embody specific feeling states or our goal for this retreat: the siren archetype.
The Siren Archetype holds the mystery to allure or calls in her desires and invites them into the underworld to see if it really does need a death and resurrection or since death.
We see this in our own lives with the way we’ve been told how to be as women: to be orderly, to be clean, to be quiet, not to take up space, to stay at home with the children….
And while none of these things are bad, if this is all we are, then the true spirit of the feminine that is embodied in being a woman dies with the silence, the order, the cleanliness, the smallness, and the limitations of our passions to love more than just our home and children,
my god we were made to love the world.
