Lumalia’s debut memoir, Blooming Upside Down, is out now!

Flash Mobs & Plot Twist Moments

Twisted shoulders, hips popped, and curly, ty-died hair fluffed, she gazed in a full-length mirror propped up against a clothing rack, and the corners of her mouth turned up.

I echoed across my emerald green velvet-covered table next to the rack, “You’re a rockstar!”

Her mom tilted her head, endeared, and said, “Yes, she is.”

She skipped up to my table, eyes bright, and I asked, “Do you want to share your plot twist moment?”

“Yes!” she replied enthusiastically

I handed her a thin strip of paper and a pen.

Then she paused, looked at me, then at her mom, and said, “What’s that?”

I’m running on a high with extra sore thighs. In June 2025, I hosted my first-ever flash mob and booth at a local street fair in my town, Portland, Oregon.

Hey beautiful, I’m Lumalia, beauty hunter, plot twist alchemist, wellness practitioner, retreat curator, visionary behind Celebrate Again, on a mission to create transformative experiences for humans to tap back into our divine remembering that the point of life is to remember the magic of it.

I wrote my plot twist in my book Blooming Upside Down and I cannot wait to hear more about yours here.

My booth  “flavor” is to create a movement where we begin to change the conversation around how we view our lives, not as ones to be fixed or healed, but as ones where we step into self-authorship, knowing that we’re always co-writing.

Reading a book recently that I feel is putting into science and words something I’ve felt and lived out my whole life, I read this quote: “As Frank Herbert once put it, ‘The mystery of life is not a problem to solve but a reality to experience.’ And the experience of reality is not limited to those with advanced degrees…it is the birthright of every human being on this planet. And that, most definitely includes you,” Stephen Harrod Buhner from Plant Intelligence and the Imaginal Realm.

And that’s what I’m here to create: a movement of humans empowered to experience the riches of life that do not come from a place of control or power hunger, but to cherish the human experience and be in profound harmony with its richness. No longer stuck in adaptations that have us trapped in trauma, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, overwhelm, and living lives that we mostly try to escape.

But in deep friendship, communion with our experiences, with each other, and with this beautiful planet we live on, which is on the same beautiful ride with us.

At my booth at the street fair, I had a floating wall of women and beauty of the earth I’ve photographed over the past few years. Photos in full expression, not posed, not trying to be anyone but themselves.

See more of those here.

And then I had a Plot Twist community tree, where I invited others to share their plot twist moments.

A moment where they felt they couldn’t do something, then decided to believe in themselves and see that they really could.

Or call in their plot twist moment with something they were currently in that they wanted a change in how their “life script” was going.

Our curly-haired little girl wrote down, “I couldn’t roller skate, and then I practiced, now I’m the best!”

Throughout the evening, others shared theirs as I encouraged them with this little girl’s story and my own healing from illnesses doctors said were incurable by learning my body was wise and was holding wisdom for me beyond the score of trauma. (more of that in my book Blooming Upside Down)

As the crowd began to thicken, a few volunteers showed up. We slipped on t-shirts I’d thrifted, then screen-printed “I am the Plot Twist” and peppered ourselves into the crowd. (Grab yours while supplies last)

I turned on “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield and began our flash mob dance, which I had choreographed.

Over and over again, I am presented with beautiful moments in which to say I can do that, and then I do it, believing in myself and trusting in the magic of everything working out exactly as it should.

Throughout our evening, we experienced a booth plot twist with rain dripping down onto the prints I had for sale, so we closed up shop for 15 minutes while it passed.

I was so tempted to leave at this point, but there was still an hour and a half left to the event. I’m so glad I decided to keep believing in the magic of this because it was then that I met some more incredible kids, mothers, and humans who felt it too.

This life is meant to be experienced in large doses of beauty, not suffering.

So, if you’re feeling like you want to write your plot twist into existence, I decided to collect your Plot Twist you’re calling in or one you’ve been through.

As they trickle in, I’ll share them anonymously here.

Please take a peek at the page where I’ll have them posted on my website, and know that as you share yours, you’re also empowering someone else to see that they, too, can have beauty in their life.

Share your PLOT Twist moment here!

Hey, I’m Lumalia, photographer, author, certified somatic movement yoga teacher, and the main voice behind Celebrate Again. I call myself a connection architect because I have a deep passion for guiding us all to fall back in love with life through states of beauty, but many of us are far from feeling at home in our own bodies, so we seek to find safety in others.

Yikes, that’s scary, I know; I did that for three decades, too, until I returned home to myself.

I’m so excited to share with you all I’ve learned and this beautiful journey back home to what makes you absolutely stunning just because you are alive today.
