Its been 9 years now that I’ve officially run a photography business, and for a good 6 of them, I did not photograph families or offer maternity photos because, well, I was TERRIFIED it would be filled with screaming children, frustrated parents and an overall horrific mess.
Well, after a period of dedicated silence listening to the Lord, I feel that He called me to photograph a sweet new-to-Colorado family in my church community.
I was terrified it was all going to go wrong, but then something clicked. What if I applied all my techniques that I do with my couples photography to families?! What if we just went and talked and played?
I began to get so excited about the conversations we were going to have and the moments we were going to capture. I started planning out our Colorado mountain family session, just like I would a Colorado mountain couple session. Planning out the posing, I wanted them to be integrating movement, fun and conversations around where I wanted them to go.
So, a few weeks later, I photographed the sweet Austin and Carrie and their family of 5 to be. We pranced around the mountains, looked for pinecones, took fun strolls, ran, climbed and threw rocks. Needless to say we all had a blast. I think even the eldest, Ezekiel, loved it the most because when I said goodbye he replied “Goodbye, I love you!” haha. Win.
I couldn’t have been more happy with how well this Colorado mountain family maternity photography session turned out. And from Carrie’s text after delivering the photos, I’d have to say she felt the same.
