Breckenridge Elopement Locations An Insider’s Guide

You’ve said yes to eloping, now it’s time to find your Breckenridge elopement locations! Breckenridge is one of the most iconic ski towns in Colorado–and maybe the whole USA! It’s quite a charming mountain town with world-renowned skiing and Colorado charm. It really is a stunning place to get eloped.

Hey, we’re Lumalia (Emmy) and Team, your elopement guides and photographers here at Celebrate Again with 10+ years of experience. We love Breckenridge elopement locations so much that we wanted to create a guide for you to know exactly where to have your Colorado elopement, with some added bonus tips and tricks! Here’s what we’ll cover in this Breckenridge elopement locations guide:

Breckenridge Elopement Locations What Makes Breckenridge So Awesome?

Tucked away in the valley of the Colorado Rockies, smack dab at the bottom of the slopes, you’ll find Breckenridge, Colorado. There are sweeping views all around you, multiple ski areas within walking distance, and less than an hour away you’ve got A Basin, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Vail. Just a short 2-hour drive from Denver international airport through the epic canyons of I-70, it’s no wonder this is a famous place! Don’t forget about the attitude: at 9,600 feet, this place can literally take your breath away.

We’re so excited to share with you the best places to elope in Breckenridge, Colorado!

Beautiful No Matter The Season

Ok, so besides being in a stunning place near even more stunning places, we love Breckenridge elopements because they allow for year-round beauty. In these lovely mountains, you’ll find the summer blooming with wildflowers and aspen trees dancing in the breeze. Fall brings the turn of the autumn colors, memorizing you during the windy car ride. Winter is a wonderland with nearly endless activities (and many winter elopement locations as well!) Spring blooms into full color, creating a luscious landscape.

Get Married Outdoors

Groom lifting up bride near water front with mountains in the background

While you cannot get married outdoors anywhere in Breckenridge, or more specifically Summit County (the area that encompasses Frisco, Dillon, Keystone, Silverthrone and Breckenridge), you can get married at some other awesome places outside. Let’s dive in!

Breckenridge Elopement Locations
#1 Sapphire Point Overlook

couple kissing after the Breckenridge elopement locations wedding

Sapphire Point is a beautiful spot that overlooks the Dillon Marina, the actual ski area of Breckenridge and the stunning vistas around. This is one of the two public lands you can legally get married at in Summit County! There is a small, well-traveled trail down to the view point that is accessible to most people. It only holds a small amount of guests and does require a permit to get married there.

Want to know more about how to have a Sapphire Point Wedding? Check out our guide!

Breckenridge Elopement Locations
#2 Windy Point Campground

Do you love the idea of having a valley view of mountains surrounding you instead of being on the mountaintop itself? Windy Point may be the perfect Breckenridge elopement locations for you! This is the second approved public land you can legally get married at in Summit County. A bit more accessible than Sapphire Point, this location sits at the beach of the Dillon Marina looking out into Silverthorne and Dillon, Colorado. A permit is also required to get married at this location. You can pick up your Windy Point Campground permit here.

Breckenridge Elopement Locations
#3 Ice Castles

view of the ice castles with the light glowing through

Did we mention how awesome Breckenridge is in the winter? Besides the epic skiing/snowboarding, Ice Castles (yes, that’s actually the name of the company) comes to Dillon and builds their world famous ice sculptures every winter!

Pro Tip: Make sure to check when they are open! Sometimes its not until Janurary or after the holidays.

While we do wish you could get married here, it’s a bit too busy of a tourist attraction, so you’ll have to request a special permit to take photos here instead. Sign up early to do this once they announce their opening dates because they fill up quickly. Plan for lots of people milling around you because it’s a hot spot and unfortunately you cannot reserve the castles for private events. The best approach is to opt for non busy times like after dinner or first thing in the morning.

P.S. Skip down to our hidden gems spot to learn about an ice cave that is way more secluded.

Breckenridge Elopement Locations
#4 Hoosier Pass

view of a Breckenridge elopement locations mountain pass

Head past Breckenridge on CO-9 and you’ll drive through a magical area called Hoosier Pass. If you hadn’t had your fill of epic scenery driving into Breckenridge, this pass along the continental divide will leave your jaw dropped. With sweeping mountain views and vistas all around, this is another beautiful spot to have photos after your Breckenridge elopement ceremony!

Breckenridge Elopement Locations
#5 Dillon Marina

couple running away holding hands barefoot near alpine lake

While you cannot have your wedding ceremony here unless you reserve Windy Point, you’ll want to skip down to the shore for an adventure by the beach. We love kicking off our shoes and splashing around on the sand. Depending on the fire safety guideline for the time of year, you could even join the locals and have a beachside fire as the sun sets. Roasting s’mores by the fire on your wedding day sounds pretty amazing, right!?

You could also head over to the Frisco Marina and rent a boat for the day. Go sailing or rent a pontoon to skim on the water celebrating your wedding day!

If you’re a little more adventurous, rent a canoe or paddleboard!

Breckenridge Elopement Locations
#6 Ski Resorts

Many of the ski resorts will let you get married in the summertime at the top of certain lifts. Check with each resort about their different rules and regulations for elopements or small weddings. Some may require you to have your reception in one of their dining halls, but others do not. It’s worth asking for the epic views you’ll get at the top of the ski hill, summer or winter!

Breckenridge Elopement Locations
#7 Silverthrone Pavillion

view of Silverthorne Pavilion near Breckenridge

Looking for an indoor Breckenridge elopement location? Silverthorne Pavillion may be a good fit if you’re having a small wedding with a few guests rather than a two person self solemnizing elopement. Tucked away just off of I-70, you’ll have gorgeous views around you and an adorable bridge with a river near the venue. This venue is also only minutes away from Dillon Marina and the Ice Castles!

Breckenridge Elopement Locations
#8 Rental Homes

view of a rental home near Breckenridge

What is more intimate than renting a luxury mountain home and hosting your elopement with your immediate family and one or two close friends? Hire a private caterer and have a celebration without the fuss of tons of guests. Some rentals are slope side and with the owners permission, you could have your ceremony on the balcony or in the backyard of one of these rental properties.

Rivertree Lodge is a famous Airbnb (but actually a Turnkey property) for Breckenridge elopement locations. I’ve photographed here before and its crazy beautiful!

Ready to Celebrate After?

If you plan to have a Sapphire Point elopement or an outdoor non-wedding venue, you may want to find your own way to celebrate after. Below are our favorite ideas as well as restaurants our past clients or other couples have loved who got married in Summit County.

Hire A Private Chef

Hire a private chef or caterer to cook for you at your hotel or rental property. If you do have a large guest list, make sure you check with your rental property that they will allow this many guests in their home.

P.S. We and our past clients loved working with Jenny with The Happy Cuisiniere!

Plan A Picnic Or A Boat Ride

couple celebrating after their wedding day with a romantic picnic

Make a picnic for two! Grab your favorite blanket, or better yet, have your vows written on this blanket from Etsy and have a meal made for you two to enjoy by the beautiful Dillon Reservoir.

Or hire a boat ride for after your ceremony. If it’s just you two, you can make your reception as romantic as you’d like!

Getting Married Slope Side?

Why not strap on your skis or snowboard and carve down the aisle? How badass would that be? Help a girl out and make a dream come true. (For real, this is the wedding exit I always wanted myself when I got married, but family pressure convinced me not to go for it!)

Consider A Restaurant

Book a private room or rent out a small restaurant for you and your guests. Some of our past clients and other couples have loved these restaurants.

  • Bold
  • Breckenridge Distillery
  • Hearthstone
  • Bagali’s

Adventures Your Wedding Day Could Include

Most couples only consider their ceremony when eloping, but what if you considered your wedding as an all day experience! Educating couples is what we’re all about here at Celebrate Again! Here are some ideas that are all available in Breckenridge or the surrounding areas. If an idea has a link, we have a blog post about a couple who actually did it!

Breckenridge Elopement Locations: Weather Tips

couple enjoying a Breckenridge elopement locations summer wedding on a mountain top

Summer Weddings (June-August)

Weather is usually a bit more predictable and warmer in the summer in Colorado, which is nice if you have your heart set on any attire that shows a bit more skin or if you just love warmer weather.

Expect 70s in the summer, but be well prepared, as it could also drop to the 50s or 40s with a decent breeze. My best advice to you is to pack layers, for yourself but also let your guests know!

Pro Tip: Consider a morning ceremony, as afternoon thunderstorms are more likely than morning ones.

Fall Elopements (September-October)

When are the fall colors going to peak, you might ask? While I wish I could wave a magic wand and predict this, no one really knows. Local forecasters will try to make their best guess around August.

Historically, you can expect the colors to peak in late August or September. Sometimes, but rarely, it’ll be October.

Expect the weather to be a little cooler and snow may be possible from late September into October. It can also rain and thunderstorm or be sunny, dry, and absolutely perfect.

Winter Elopements (November-February)

couple doing a dip kiss in the snow as snow falls all around them and trees are coated with snow in the background

Winter weddings are absolutely gorgeous. The magical snowfall coating the ground and mountains with beautiful fresh snow is every winter-loving couple’s dream.

Make sure to plan well though, Colorado is actually the snowiest in February and March! Although we’ve had some snowy Novembers and Decembers too.

Spring Elopementst (March-May)

As much as I’d like to say we have an actual spring out here in the mountains, the reality is, it’s just more winter. It can snow into early June at these altitudes and may be muddy. The locals start to skip town this part of the year because it’s called “Mud Season”. But if that doesn’t frighten you away, there are a lot of perks. You probably won’t be competing for the best dates like you would in summertime or fall. All your other accommodations are probably going to be at a discounted rate. If you love skiing or snowboarding, you can still enjoy those usually into April and in some resorts into late May and occasionally the first week of June!

What To Pack Based on The Season

Summer: Pack layers for chilly temperatures or rain.

Fall: Prepare for winter-like weather with proper attire, hand coverings, and footgear.

Winter: It’s very cold and wet out, cheap cotton gloves WILL NOT keep you warm in the mountains. As ugly as they are, you really need proper snow gloves to keep frostbite away. Bundle up and add on the wool based layers!

Spring: It’s still pretty much winter so keep your layers close by!
