Here are a few steps you can do to make sure you have a smooth first look:

  • Set an exact time and location for your first look (ask your wedding planner and photographer for tips on location for the best lighting and timing for this.)
  • This may seem obvious don’t see each other dressed before your first look.

  • On the wedding day have your best man, maid of honor and or wedding coordinator communicate with each other of where you and your groom are so you don’t accidentally see each other.
  • Decide who will be present for the first look. I typically encourage it only to be the bride and groom and the photographers. Having to many spectators can ruin this very intimate moment, unless you are super outgoing. (You may need to communicate this to family or friends who get camera happy.)Making your first look wonderful: How to make your first look at your wedding turn out beautifully, Wedding Tips from Denver Wedding Photographer featuring first look photos
  • Decide what you will do. Some couples just see each other and spend a few (5-10 minutes) seeing each other. But, you could ask exchange notes or read your vows to each other. (Note: if you are one to cry make sure to leave time to go back and freshen up your make-up before the ceremony!)

  • Communicate all of your plans with your wedding planner/coordinator and photographer.
