Two saturday’s ago Josh and I went on our first day hike in Colorado….I know, it took us almost two years to do. But, you have to understand a few things. First, I’m a wedding photographer. To have a whole saturday off that isn’t filled with a wedding, session or recovering from wedding season is a rarity. Second, Josh isn’t the most adventurous person in the world, he rather sit and read a book all day or work on a house project than spend all day hiking. BUT I finally had a free weekend and convinced Josh to come. We found this Lake Isabelle hike online and were sold based on the pictures of Lake Isabelle. It looked unreal, especially for the fact that you could drive there from Denver in 2 hours in a 2-wheel drive car, and have an easy 2 mile hike to the lake. It was a perfect fit for our VW Beetle and our non-hiker endurances.
We ended up parking in an area that was not the true start of the Lake Isabelle trail head but it was still beautiful walking there. Starting out at Brainard Lake was beautiful. I honestly couldn’t have imagined it getting any more gloriously remarkable.
But it did…

Once we reached the Lake we stopped for a snack and accidentally spilled our nuts. We quickly found ourselves making friends with these guys. We were both amazed at how close they got to us!
The only truly sketchy part of the hike was walking across some cobble stones that were just above the water line in the many streams pouring into the different snow made lakes. This one below actually had a bridge made, which made for a perfect tripod to take this shot.
It was SOO green out there, it was stunning.
The rest of these were taking on the hike back. I am so thankful Josh is willing to stop every 5 minutes for me to take photos.
We started our hike just at the right time. As we were heading back fog was starting to cover the glaciers, which created this eerie photo.
I just adore when the Lord shows us His majesty through His creation (which He did so much for us on our hike.) I just kept thinking if this is the beauty of our fallen earth that is a reflection of God’s beauty how much more beautiful He is in true appearance….I cannot imagine, yet cannot wait until that day.
To top the cherry off on top we caught this sunset driving home the back way through Nederland. It was a remarkable day, needless to say. Also, Josh had so much fun I think he’s more open to day hikes with me. HOORAY! 😉
